Three activated carbon pre-filters and a VOC canister are included with the Amaircare 94012231 plus replacement filter kit. Changing your filters regularly keeps your 2500-VOC air purifier in perfect working order. Solid carbon and zeolite pellets that have very large surface areas are utilized in the VOC canister. This canister adsorbs harmful VOCs that off-gas from things made with chemicals. The activated carbon filters capture visible dust and particulates. These large particulates are captured before they can reach the HEPA filter which prolongs its life by preventing it from clogging.
